Office of the President

About Us:

Here at Ambience, we never set out to be just another scribe. We’re building the AI intelligence platform that restores humanity to healthcare and drives meaningful ROI for health systems across the country.

Our technology helps providers focus on delivering great care by removing the administrative burden that pulls them away from patients and away from their most impactful work. Ambience delivers real-time coding-aware documentation and clinical workflow support across ambulatory, emergency and inpatient settings at the top health systems in North America.

Our teams operate relentlessly with extreme ownership to build the best solutions for our health system partners. We value candor, positivity and deep thought — and we expect a lot from each other because we know the problems we’re solving truly matter.

Ambience was ranked #1 for Improving the Clinician Experience in the KLAS Research Emerging Solutions Top 20 Report, recognized by Fast Company as one of the Next Big Things in Tech, named one of the best AI companies in healthcare by Inc., and selected as a LinkedIn Top Startup in 2024 and 2025. We’re backed by Oak HC/FT, Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), OpenAI Startup Fund, and Kleiner Perkins — and we’re just getting started.

About the Office of the President

The Office of the President (OOTP) is a small, high-trust team that operates across Ambience's most consequential strategic frontiers – partnerships, ecosystem navigation, adjacent markets, and thought leadership. This office is not a functional team and not an additional management layer. It is a problem-solving nucleus built to help the President see the future more clearly, architect the best possible version of Ambience, and move the company decisively toward it. The team also drives select internal initiatives, including building AI-native operating systems for knowledge management and organizational learning.

The healthcare AI landscape is evolving rapidly, and the decisions being made now will shape the industry for years to come. Good decision-making requires timely, accurate information – which requires building the right learning networks and ecosystems. That is the OOTP's mandate.

The Role

You will work closely with Mike Ng, President and Co-Founder, and the OOTP's Chief of Staff on the analytical, financial, and strategic work that underpins Ambience's most important external partnerships and market expansion decisions.

The OOTP operates at the pace of the business – which means fire drills, compressed timelines, and deliverables that need to be real enough to use in high-stakes meetings, not polished enough to frame on a wall. You'll receive strategic direction from Mike, translate it into financial models, partnership narratives, competitive analyses, and market sizing exercises, and iterate rapidly as the picture sharpens. The work will be messy before it's clean, and you'll be expected to produce something useful fast, then make it better.

Mike operates in deep alignment with the philosophy outlined in The Great CEO Within by Matt Mochary – a playbook for founder-operators that emphasizes radical prioritization, impeccable agreements, and building leaders who own outcomes rather than just tasks.

What you'll work on:

Partnership strategy and storytelling. When Ambience evaluates a potential strategic partnership, someone needs to build the case: what does the combined offering look like? Where is value created for both sides? What's the revenue and margin impact of co-investing versus going it alone? You'll build these narratives – part strategic slideware, part financial analysis – and pressure-test them with Mike before they go into a room that matters. This is the single most acute need on the team.

Financial modeling and deal support. When partnership negotiations move into deal structuring, you'll build the models that inform Ambience's position – pricing scenarios, margin analysis, revenue projections, sensitivity tables. When a negotiation compresses into a 72-hour sprint, you'll be building and updating models in real time as terms shift. Mike spent 5+ years in private equity and investment banking, so the bar for financial rigor is high.

New market and competitive intelligence. Ambience is continuously evaluating where to expand – new care settings, new product categories, new distribution channels. You'll research and size these opportunities, analyze direct and indirect competitors (their positioning, their true capabilities, their likely future direction), and produce the analyses that inform what to pursue and what to pass on.

Ad hoc strategic analysis. The OOTP handles the problems that don't fit neatly into any one department. One week you might be evaluating a potential acquisition target. The next you might be building a briefing memo for a board meeting. The week after that you might be sizing the economics of a new product category to decide whether it's worth engineering investment. The common thread: these are high-stakes decisions where the quality of the analysis directly affects the outcome, and they tend to arrive on short timelines.

What This Role Is Not

We believe in transparency and clarity early on to save everyone time.

This is not a pure strategy role. You will do strategic thinking, but the output is always a deliverable – a model, a deck, a memo, an analysis – that someone can use in a real meeting or negotiation. Thinking without a usable artifact doesn't count.

This is not a generalist operating role. You won't be running team meetings, managing OKRs, or quarterbacking across workstreams. The Chief of Staff owns the OOTP operating system. Your job is to produce the highest-quality analytical and strategic work on the team.

This is not a role where you set the strategic agenda. Mike provides the strategic architecture – the vision, the priorities, the framing for how Ambience should approach a market or a partner. Your job is to take that architecture and build against it: sharpen the logic, fill in the data, construct the financial case, and identify the gaps. Over time, as you build context and credibility, you'll increasingly contribute your own strategic perspective. But the starting point is execution, not origination.

What We're Looking For

The archetype: You take a strategic direction and turn it into something concrete and usable – fast. You're the person who, given a one-page prompt on a partnership opportunity, can produce a compelling "here's why this works for both sides" narrative backed by real numbers within days. You've built financial models under pressure, written memos that senior leaders actually used to make decisions, and operated in environments where the work had to be good enough to act on, not just good enough to present.

Experience & background:

  • 3–7 years of professional experience in roles that required both analytical rigor and business judgment. Investment banking, private equity, management consulting, strategic finance, or corporate development backgrounds are all strong fits – especially if you've also spent time in an operating environment where you had to turn analysis into action.

  • Strong financial modeling skills. You can build a model from scratch – revenue projections, unit economics, deal scenarios, sensitivity analysis – and you're comfortable iterating on it live as assumptions change. This is a core requirement, not a nice-to-have.

  • Clear, structured written communication. You'll produce memos, pre-briefs, and partnership decks that go directly to Mike and, in some cases, to external partners and executives. Your writing needs to be precise, well-organized, and built for decision-making.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and speed. The problems you'll work on won't come with a clear brief or a two-week timeline. You need to be able to scope an ambiguous question, figure out what data you need, get to a useful answer quickly, and flag what you're uncertain about.

Strongly preferred domain expertise in one or more of the following:

  • Foundation models / hyperscalers (e.g., understanding the competitive dynamics, partnership structures, and go-to-market strategies of major AI infrastructure providers)

  • Health systems (e.g., how large health systems buy, implement, and adopt technology; navigating the clinical, operational, and financial stakeholders)

  • Adjacent healthcare markets such as revenue cycle management, payers, or life sciences (e.g., familiarity with the players, economics, and technology ecosystems in one or more of these spaces)

The intangibles:

  • Mutual fit matters deeply here. You'll be working in close proximity to Mike and the rest of the OOTP daily. As you get to know each other through the interview process, we hope you'll build conviction on fit, trust, and whether this is a partnership where both sides learn from and elevate each other.

  • Your deliverables are built for someone else's success. The memos you write, the models you build, the decks you produce – they exist so Mike can walk into a room prepared and armed with the best possible analysis. You take pride in the quality of the work itself, and you're motivated by the impact it creates, even when your name isn't on it.

  • You think about AI in terms of compounding systems, not just efficiency gains. Using AI to draft an email faster is table stakes. We care about whether you build systems that get smarter over time – where each use makes the next one better. We'll ask you how you've used AI in the last six months, and we want to see what you've built.

  • Slope over y-intercept. We value your growth rate more than your starting point. Every six months, you should be able to look back and point to something meaningful you couldn't have done six months prior.

Pay Transparency

The base compensation for this role is approximately $150,000–$225,000 per year, excluding equity or bonus targets. We intentionally offer a wide range to support flexibility around cash and equity. We believe strongly in equity ownership and want team members to share meaningfully in the impact they create.

If you’re outside this range, we still encourage you to apply – we take an individualized approach to compensation that considers the full picture.
